In an era where Yoruba rap has been the extravaganza … where only Yoruba rappers are the nominees in every award … he came, he brought his own style of music (Igbo rap) and he’s about to conquer … you can even say he has conquered already … call him the Playmaker, call him the Man of the Year, call him anything you want to … this week, #MikellzBluez presents you the highly exquisite and talented rapper Chibuzo “Phyno” Azubuike as the Celebrity of the Week!

Like other past celebrities that we’ve showcased here on #MikellBluez, Phyno had a very scandalous week last week when it was rumoured that he impregnated a former girlfriend, Rita Edmond … I can’t really tell how factual this is, and he has denied it.

HIS LIFE

Phyno grew up in Enugu and also schooled in Enugu and graduated from IMT (Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu) with a degree in Public Administration. This man of the year hails from Anambra state and is also the 4th child in a family of 5.

HIS CAREER

PHYNO is a well-known producer/ artiste and has been in the music industry for more than nine years producing and working with top A-list Nigerian artistes like Timaya, Ill Bliss, MI, Mr Raw, Bracket, Flavour, Waje… just to mention but a few.

Phyno’s hit single “Multiply remix” which featured the likes of Timaya, Mr Raw, Flavour and MI received lots of attention and made it clear that this brother has a lot to showcase. The video for the song was shot by award winning video director Clarence Peters of “Capital Dreams”. He also has other wave making singles like “Man of the Year”, “Kush Music” and “Parcel”.

By 2010, the eccentric producer decided to try his hands on the other side of the booth, starting his own rap career, and indigenous Igbo rap has never been so cool ever since. With multiple hits to his credit as a producer and rapper, Phyno is putting final touches on his official debut album titled: “No Guts, No Glory”, which was slated to drop before the end of 2013… but will definitely hit us like a Mike Tyson blow soon!

The “obago master” is signed under Sputnet/Penthauze Records.

NOW AND THEN

Back then, he used to be the biggest producer in the Southeast … making hits for the likes of Mr Nigga Raw, Timaya, MI and so on. But now, he is on top of his game, and he enjoys being rated as one of the best rapper in Nigeria, even with his ‘language barrier’! He has no album yet but he has been rated as an A-list act and the Ideal Man Of the Year for 2013.
